The Hollist
The Hollist Arms is a 15th Century public house in Lodsworth. Near Petworth, West Sussex.
Attractive South Downs pub in pretty Lodsworth. Family-friendly, rooms for events, flowers everywhere – and really good classic pub food
A great walk and Sunday roast destination. Step through the door to find earthy colours, scrubbed wood, a fire burning – and staff with a friendly hello. Award-winning Langham Brewery is just down road, and the bar features other ales, a gluten-free and a monthly guest one too; a short but well thought out wine list includes Sussex choices. The menu is good pub food following the seasons, using as many local ingredients as they can: pie and quiche of the day, homemade burger, risotto, home-baked ham, crab mayo with chilli and lime… You can sit outside at tables in front or in the large garden at the back – the local food shop adjoining is a bit of a boon. A great place for a special occasion; informal and muddy walkers will feel equally at home.

The Horse Guards Inn
Settled in the sleepy village of Tillington, near Petworth, West Sussex, The Horse Guards Inn is a 350 year old pub in The South Downs National Park. With rolling views down the Rother Valley, the Horse Guards got its name in the 1840's, when part the household cavalry would frequent the Inn, while their horses rested on grass in the grounds of the Petworth Estate
under the watchful eye of Lord Egremont.
The pub is relaxed, friendly and informal with wooden tables and chairs, oak beams and stripped floorboards. In winter you can roast chestnuts foraged from Petworth Park on one of the open log fires, play board games at the bar and forget about outside with a warm glass of spiced cider.
On sunnier days, enjoy the hidden garden slumped in deck chairs or on straw-bale seats or have lunch at shaded tables on benches covered with sheepskins, eating beside the herbs and vegetables you’ll find on your plate.
